Hello 2021! Getting Back on Track After the Year That Was

We made it!

2021 is here, and like every new year, there’s a sense of hope in the air – perhaps a little more than usual.

The biggest takeaway from the year that was:

Last year was eventful, to say the least. It taught us so much – both in life and in the kitchen, for amateur cooks such as much myself.

Thinking back, a newfound appreciation and gratitude towards our health was the biggest lesson of them all. When you and your loved ones are healthy, everything in life is minuscule or like Metallica – the heavy metal band – put it, nothing else matters.

We owe a debt to our body:

Throughout the ups and downs of last year, our body (and our immune system) fought on. It kept us healthy as we stayed indoors worrying about the virus, vigorously washed our hands and sanitised everything in our vicinity.

Amidst the chaos, if you found yourself going off-track with your diet, exercise and sleep routine – you’re not alone. Combining that with the added stress of living in 2020 – our routines did go for a toss!

But all is not lost.

Getting back on track with our health goals in 2021:

Don’t let the ‘2020 routine’ overshadow how you choose to live your life in 2021. Whether or not you’ve made resolutions this year, health must be a default priority for all of us.

Aim to do at least the six following things for yourself:

  1. Take a break from the lavish cooking experiments and go back to eating wholesome, balanced food.
  2. Rectify your micronutrient intake. Analyse your current intake on the Fitterfly Metabolic Health App for free and then improve it slowly and steadily.
  3. Get off that chair – seriously! Commit to being active for 30 minutes a day – that’s just one Netflix episode, by the way.
  4. Drink more water! Can’t stress on it enough – just 8-10 glasses a day – you can do it!
  5. Go to bed at a reasonable hour so that you can get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Let’s not be sleep-deprived Zombies in 2021, please.
  6. Learn to let go and relax – spend ten minutes a day meditating – if we can get through 2020, we can get through anything.
