Prioritise Your Health – All Women Can!

Spread the love

While a lot is spoken about women’s wellness, very little is done about it! Almost every day, we see the women in our houses sacrifice a little something from their day or life to provide for their families. Be it the last roti or the last serving of the curry, or their favourite sweet dish.

If you are a woman reading this blog post, you are very familiar with the thought, “How can I think about me?” or “My family always comes before me” when doing something for your happiness.

Whether picking up a few clothing items while shopping or heading to watch a new movie of your favourite movie star, most women tend to put their choices after those of their loved ones.

This sacrificial behaviour is not just common when making minor life choices but also when it comes to their health. So much so that a majority of women worldwide neglect their health by ignoring signs or symptoms they may be experiencing or tending to their health issues. As a result, they increase the risk of developing unnecessary health complications.

Every year we celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, and a lot is said about women’s wellness and health. However, how often do we celebrate ourselves, the women in our lives, for all you and they do?

Blame it on society or culture, most girls grow up believing that their well-being and health come last – and are labelled ‘selfish’ if they try to take care of their health consciously! Many women also think of taking care of their health as another ‘job’ when they are already overburdened with several tasks.

In this blog, we’ve got you tips on women’s wellness and how to prioritise your health- because all women can and should!

How You Can Prioritise Your Health!

You must understand that you are just as human as those around you. While you may be the one taking care of your kids and family, you deserve some time off, a break to rest and the independence to do what your heart desires.

Here are some ways to improve women’s wellness and how you can prioritise your physical, mental, and emotional health!

1) Schedule some me-time

Regardless of how busy your schedule may be, keep aside time to focus on yourself. Even a few minutes of self-care every day for your favourite activity, like reading a book, learning a new skill, attending an online class, or just sipping a cup of coffee with your thoughts, can relieve stress, refresh and rejuvenate you.

2) Undergo periodic health checks

Even if you feel fine, you must undergo regular health checks once or twice a year. These checkups and doctor consultations help diagnose health conditions early and prevent the development of further complications. Women are encouraged to undergo screening for diabetes, blood pressure and breast and cervical cancers.

3) Consult a doctor when you notice a health issue or symptom

As part of prioritising your health, it is important to visit your doctor if you feel unwell, see a sign or experience a symptom out of the normal. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of medical conditions have better outcomes.

4) Eat a healthy diet

Want to follow a diet but unable to do so? You are not alone! Many women neglect their food liking and tastes and give in to what their children or family like.

But you must prioritise your own likes and dislikes when it comes to food, even if it means cooking for yourself as often as possible. A healthy diet is a vital part of women’s wellness and well-being.

5) Stick to your exercise routine

With rigid work timings and a house to look after, women usually do not find adequate time during the day for exercise. Infact, an Australian study states that men ‘borrow’ free time from their female partners for exercise!

Regardless of how busy you may be, squeeze in atleast 20 minutes of exercise every day to start with. If you are unable to do so, opt for stairs instead of the elevator, skip the bus in favour of walking to your office or take the bicycle to work or run errands around your home while taking the stairs. Regardless of the physical activity you choose, ensure you get your exercise for the day!

6) Pamper yourself atleast once a week

Women often feel guilty about spending some time or money on activities they enjoy. But, it is essential to pamper yourself atleast once a week by doing what you enjoy- shopping, salon day, or just heading out to your favourite eatery! While you enjoy spending time with your family/friends, investing some time in doing something YOU love is also necessary.

7) Love travelling? Solo trips can be refreshing

Travel is refreshing. Taking solo trips to places that have always been on your bucket list is a form of self-care, and women must take any opportunity that comes their way! Solo trips are not just refreshing but also help women discover themselves.

8) Know your worth!

While you keep all of the above in mind, you must never undermine your existence. You are worthy enough to enjoy what you love and deserve to get it! It doesn’t matter if you are a homemaker or a working professional, single, married or divorced, young or old; you deserve every bit of happiness and wellness as much as anyone else in your family.

9) Enrol with a healthcare program

Enrolling on a healthcare program that helps you in your wellness journey is a great way to prioritise your health. These programs take into account your medical condition, lifestyle and habits and suggest programs for you accordingly- like how Fitterfly does.
