Results Are Out! Fitterfly’s Child Nutrition Survey Uncovered Some Shocking Truths

The future of a nation lies in the hands of its growing buds – its children!

A healthy diet with apt nutrition is the right choice for your little munchkin. As a parent or a guardian, you don’t want to settle on their growth and want to make sure that you give them everything to ensure their mental and physical development.

But where lies the truth? What does data say about the nutritional status of Indian children?

To shed light on this, Team Fitterfly did a 7-days nutritional assessment of school-going children on their Nutrition Practice Management Software – Ntuitive. Scroll below to check out the astounding survey results.

  2. Age group: 7 to 16 years
  3. Gender:
    • 404 Boys
    • 523 Girls.
  4. Diet
    • 24% Vegetarians
    • 9% Eggetarian
    • 67% Non-vegetarians
  5. Weight Distribution
  6. Macronutrient Analysis
    Macronutrient Findings
    Carbohydrate 90% of students deficient
    Protein 50% of students deficient
    Fat More than 50% of students deficient
  7. Micronutrient – Calcium and Iron Analysis
  8. The number of children who consumed less than 50% of the recommended value of essential nutrients.

To sum it up, here are the key findings of the survey:

  • More than 50% of the children fall in the poor weight and underweight category. It could be because they are not getting enough quantity and quality of food to meet their growing nutritional demand.
  • More than 60% of children had a deficiency of micronutrients particularly of Vitamin D, Omega 3, Vitamin B12, Potassium and many more. This can severely affect their growth, brain development and can lower their immunity.
  • Results showed a substantial deficiency of macronutrients, with 90% of children having a shortfall of carbohydrates.
