For years soups have been great comfort food and one of the favorite ways of introducing vegetables in 
our little one’s diet during the growing stages. Soups have a number of health benefits and thus it’s 
important to introduce them in our child’s diet on a daily basis. 
Soups offer a lot of health benefits 
1.Nutritious meal options 
Soups are a great way to pump in vegetables in the diet. Soups are a great way to introduce more 
amounts and variety of veggies (especially the least favorites) in a more palatable form. Soups are 
also high in vitamins such as Vitamin B, C, K and beta carotene. Minerals as well as excellent source 
of soluble and insoluble fibers. 
Soups also provide hydration to the body. It is a great idea to introduce cold soups as part of meal 
during summers.  
3.Helps regulate bowel movements 
Soups provide adequate fiber and fluid which help relieve constipation and regulate bowel 
4.Weight management 
Consuming a bowl of soup the first thing during meals leads to lower intake of high calorie foods. 
This is because soups fill up the stomach, it is high in nutrients but low in calories and thus helps 
weight managements 
Soups can also become a complete meal by adding carbohydrate sources like rice, vermicelli, 
noodles. Protein content can be increased by adding meat like chicken, mutton, pork, tofu, corn etc. 
Vegetables can be either pureed or left chunky, it is advised not to strain the soup as it may lead to 
wastage of fibers.  
A great way to thicken soups are by adding oats, cream, white sauce (béchamel sauce). 
So, feel free to add variety of soups in your child’s diet at least 2-3 times a week. So that your child 
gets all the benefits that this yummy meal has to offer.
Monsoon is the perfect season to indulge into snacking with soups. Using variety of vegetables bringing in a twist in the colour and flavour, is the perfect healthy family food for the season.
