So much so that a majority of women worldwide neglect their health by ignoring signs or symptoms they may be experiencing or tending to their health issues. As a result, they increase the risk of developing unnecessary health complications.

Every year we celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, and a lot is said about women’s wellness and health. However, how often do we celebrate ourselves, the women in our lives, for all you and they do?

Blame it on society or culture, most girls grow up believing that their well-being and health come last – and are labelled ‘selfish’ if they try to take care of their health consciously! Even a few minutes of self-care every day for your favourite activity, like reading a book, learning a new skill, attending an online class, or just sipping a cup of coffee with your thoughts, can relieve stress, refresh and rejuvenate you.

2) Undergo periodic health checks

Even if you feel fine, you must undergo regular health checks once or twice a year. These checkups and doctor consultations help diagnose health conditions early and prevent the development of further complications. Women are encouraged to undergo screening for diabetes, blood pressure and breast and cervical cancers.

3) Consult a doctor when you notice a health issue or symptom

As part of prioritising your health, it is important to visit your doctor if you feel unwell, see a sign or experience a symptom out of the normal. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of medical conditions have better outcomes.

4) Eat a healthy diet

Want to follow a diet but unable to do so? You are not alone! Many women neglect their food liking and tastes and give in to what their children or family like.

But you must prioritise your own likes and dislikes when it comes to food, even if it means cooking for yourself as often as possible. A healthy diet is a vital part of women’s wellness and well-being.

5) Stick to your exercise routine

With rigid work timings and a house to look after, women usually do not find adequate time during the day for exercise. If you are unable to do so, opt for stairs instead of the elevator, skip the bus in favour of walking to your office or take the bicycle to work or run errands around your home while taking the stairs. Regardless of the physical activity you choose, ensure you get your exercise for the day!

6) Pamper yourself atleast once a week

Women often feel guilty about spending some time or money on activities they enjoy. But, it is essential to pamper yourself atleast once a week by doing what you enjoy- shopping, salon day, or just heading out to your favourite eatery! While you enjoy spending time with your family/friends, investing some time in doing something YOU love is also necessary.

7) Love travelling? Solo trips can be refreshing

Travel is refreshing. Taking solo trips to places that have always been on your bucket list is a form of self-care, and women must take any opportunity that comes their way! You are worthy enough to enjoy what you love and deserve to get it! It doesn’t matter if you are a homemaker or a working professional, single, married or divorced, young or old; you deserve every bit of happiness and wellness as much as anyone else in your family.

9) Enrol with a healthcare program

Enrolling on a healthcare program that helps you in your wellness journey is a great way to prioritise your health.
